FAQs
Q. "How long are
your workshops?"
A. Ideally, two days separated by about 2 weeks for
preparation time and practice. However, as little as ˝ a day can certainly make
a difference.

Q. "Does
Roome for Growth run open courses?"
A. I am happy to run individual coaching if appropriate. This
could be for more than one person. I usually work within organisations for
between two and six people / workshop.

Q. "You've either got it or you haven't ... And I haven't."
A. Wrong! It can be learnt, but it does take practice. If you are
willing to practise, I can show you how.

Q. "What is the ideal number of participants for your workshops?"
A. Between 2 and 6 people / workshop is ideal. I use another
expert trainer if larger groups are desired. This is important to allow enough
practice time for participants.

Q. "Is individual coaching best?"
A. Not necessarily. Seeing other participants try different approaches,
discussing options and the fun that a group engenders can really enhance your
learning.

Q. "I'm a senior manager and not good at presentations. Isn't it
better for me just to avoid them?"
A. It is unusual for a senior manager to be able to avoid
presentations and you really are missing a trick! It is an opportunity to
communicate with your people and to promote your career.

Q. "What are the rules I should follow?"
A. The most successful speakers are originals
who break
most of what some presentation skills trainers believe are "rules". I
will help you
to find your own authentic style - so much more engaging than someone who mimics
their manager.

Q. "My presentation puts me to sleep, what can I do?"
A. I suspect you are thinking more about what you can tell your
audience than what they would be interested in. On my workshop I use exercises
to help you explore this.

Q. "I know I should be using computer projection by now, but I
don't know how and it's very intimidating?"
A. I appreciate how intimidating it feels, I have helped
countless people who felt exactly like that. They are so surprised when they
find out how easy it is. The software helps you develop the presentation and a
few tips can get you going.

Q. "I'd love to get people laughing but I'm not good at jokes?"
A. There are many different forms of humour,
for example personal stories are often funnier than jokes and much easier for
those of us who don't think we're funny. You might surprise yourself.
FAQ Index
Q. "How do I make them listen?"
A. Real give-away question! It sounds like you are much more
interested in what you can tell them, rather than what will engage the interest
of members of your audience and what's in it for them.

Q. "I know I end up putting too much into my presentations. The
audience ends up looking shell-shocked. How do I control myself?"
A. My sympathies are with the audience! It is so important to
think about what the audience needs or wants to hear rather than all you can tell
them. I suspect they won't remember much of your presentation, so a useful
question to ask yourself is. "What would you want them to tell me if I stopped them afterwards
outside the door?"
FAQ Index
Q. "How do I stay within time?"
A. Know what you “must” include. Your “wants” and “coulds” can
then be dropped if necessary. Then practice! There really are no ways around
that one.
